LIFE BEHIND THE WIRE

Title: ‘Let me tell you a story’

Data: 01-10.03.2015

Host: Zamojskie Voluntary Service Center

Grant: European Erasmus+ programe, Key Action 1, Sector ‘Youth’

You can learn history in many ways. School, books, travel - that's how we learn about our ancestors and the past of the world. We can also find out a lot by talking to witnesses of important historical events. This is how we, young Europeans, expanded our knowledge. The idea of the project was born during many youth meetings that took place in Europe in 2013 and 2014.

Participants interested in history met in Zamość in March 2015 to talk to seniors under the care of the Zamojskie Voluntary Service Center. Interviews with them were used to write memories and publish publications in electronic and paper form.

Thanks to this, we saved the fate of history witnesses from oblivion, as well as gained valuable knowledge that could not be acquired at school or university.

Young people from Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Poland took part in the meeting. We also advertised our local communities the possibilities of the European Erasmus + program.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the culture and traditions of the Lubelskie region during trips around the region. The effect of the program is to increase the awareness of young people participating in the project and our local communities about the history of Europe in the 20th century.

We invite you to visit the section 'LIVING HISTORY LESSONS -DOWNLOAD', where you can download interviews prepared during this project.
